Remembering 9/11...
Remembering 9/11 - I had a business meeting in New York City on Friday 9/9. When I woke early that morning I received a complimentary copy of the USA Today paper at my hotel room door. I looked down and saw a color image of a plane crashing into the 2nd tower. You know exactly which picture I'm referring to. I thought to myself ugh, 15 years, doesn't seem that long...
I was meeting that morning with Mizuho Bank. I met with my team before the meeting at a coffee shop to chat, prepare and wake up with another cup of coffee. Our escort came to get us at 9:55 and took us up to the Mizuho offices. I was greeted by a smiling face and asked to sign in. After doing so, I noticed large 9/11 memorial with names and pictures of the 23 Mizuho Bank employees that lost their lives 15 years ago at the World Trade Center. I froze. I couldn't talk. My heart was in my throat. And then I looked out at the city skyline and turned away from my colleagues. Time doesn't heal all wounds, not in this case, and it's still raw. Yesterday, on September 10th I played a short acoustic set with my long time bud Brian McCabe at the annual Andover Day festival. I played my patriotic song "My America" and dedicated it those lost at Mizuho Bank, all those effected by 9/11, our first responders, men and women in uniform, and those who serve and protect, past and present. It was a beautiful day and the song was well received. I reference 9/11 in the song lyrics. If you're up for another dose of Stars, Stripes and Old Glory please give my video on YouTube a look if you haven't already. And feel free to pass it along, re-post, tweet, re-tweet to anyone you think might appreciate it. My America Video by Scott Nichols https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2C_kn0uK9Y On another wall in the Mizho Bank office lobby was a massive mural that took up the entire wall which portrayed 23 beautifully painted butterflies flying upward, each one representing an employee's life lost that day. I took the time to read each name, say it in my head, and look at each face pictured. I'll be thinking about them today.
